Short insurance ABCs
Be on the safe side with Sunny Cars: here you will learn about what types of insurance you generally need for your rental car and where we have already made provisions for this - so that you can enjoy your holidays in a relaxed fashion.
Liability insurance with increased amount of coverage
As a rule this covers damages to property and personal injuries to third parties (all persons outside of one's own car, i.e. not the driver and passengers). Our worldwide offer frequently includes an unlimited amount of coverage for liability. For countries in which the compulsory or country-specific amount of coverage is not sufficient (e.g. USA) Sunny Cars guarantees a coverage sum of at least EUR 7.5 million.
Comprehensive coverage (CDW = Collision Damage Waiver)
Covers damages to one's own car caused by third parties and/or the person hiring the car. Sunny Cars guarantees reimbursement of your own contribution in case of damages
even for damages to glass, the roof, tyres and the undercarriage.
The comprehensive coverage does not include the following damages, if they
are not caused in connection with an accident:
- Damages to the interior of the car (e.g. damages to the seats)
- Damages to the roof/soft top (frequently damages to the roof in general)
Generally excluded from the CDW insurance protection are the following:
- Damages caused by a driver not entered in the lease contract
- Damages caused by incapacity of the driver or by a grossly negligent violation of traffic regulations
- Driving on unpaved roads
- Loss of or damage to the car keys
- Follow-up costs such as towing service, hotel or telephone costs
Automobile theft insurance (TP = Theft Protection)
The automobile theft insurance taken out for rental cars applies exclusively to the theft of
the car itself and not of the objects to be found within the car. Sunny Cars guarantees reimbursement of your own contribution in the event of theft of the car; excluded from this however is assumption of the costs in the event of theft of the car due to loss of the car keys.
Passenger insurance (PAI = Personal Accident Insurance)
At certain destinations a risk insurance which covers personal injuries to all the passengers of the rental vehicle is included in the lease price. At certain destinations you can take out this insurance directly from the vehicle lessor. This insurance is useful for persons who do not have their own accident insurance. The insured amount of coverage varies with the respective lessors.
Personal accident and luggage insurance
(CPP / PERSPRO = Carefree Personal Protection)
This optional insurance covers personal injuries even when the injuries are caused by another driver who is a hit-and-run driver or who is underinsured. Please enquire when
you pick up the vehicle at the leasing station about the amount of coverage and the general insurance conditions which are valid for the leasing period. |
